When I first began this program, I was nervous and unsure if I had what it takes to be an artist and produce work I could be proud of. I was hoping simply for increased confidence in my abilities and what I received was so much more! On the art side of things, I was taught things which I had never even considered in my own paintings, such as value and movement, and how colors work together. I was taught how to "see" other artists paintings and I now have the experience to approach my own paintings with the same eye. I've found color combinations I love and new materials I enjoy working with and also now view taking risks as fun instead of scary. The homework assignments were well spaced out and allowed me to "get" the ideas before moving on in the next week. I'm so happy I took the leap of faith and began the program and have learned soooo much! When I compare my paintings from before I began the program to now, I see a huge improvement and I feel my style now represents myself much better.

I've painted for 40 years as a self taught impressionist painter. I am drawn to bold color and looseness. I wanted to learn abstract and find my style. I just finished the course, and feel it has propelled me on that journey with a lot of knowledge and education. Thanks, Amira.

I've been a professional artist over 50 years as a graphic artist for a large school system, a television artist, make-up artist, costume designer, mascot builder and set painter for stage and many businesses and performers. I've never understood or appreciated abstract art so this course intriqued me! I have gained a new appreciation but will not be giving up my realistic style completely! I imagine some abstract backgrounds or other touches will creep into my paintings as that is how I express myself at this stage of life now that I'm officially retired! What I loved about this course was how committed I was to it from the start. I kept up the whole way through and was amazed at how much I was learning! The tutorials and replays, especially watching Amira’s painting process, were so inspiring. By the end of 8 weeks, painting had become a part of my daily life. I see colour and harmony everywhere now—even in films and adverts—and it’s shifted how I look at my own work. I’ve learned so much—layers, glazes, opaques, neutrals, how to avoid mud, how to make space in a painting. I’ve also started going bigger on canvas, which has been so exciting. I am deeply grateful for the day that I saw BTAS on IG! My passion for painting and creating has been ignited again and it seems like there is no turning back. The Better Than Art School bootcamp was one of the best investments that I made in myself in a very long time. Every lesson was far greater than any art lesson that I had in HS and in college as a Studio Art Minor! I have had more breakthroughs in my confidence in my creative ability than I can express. Amira and her team are phenomenal with holding space for the blooming artist! The homework assignments were all very reasonable to accomplish. I originally was apprehensive as to how to make time to paint with a toddler. However, I learned that it was something that I had to do for myself and is an ever-evolving practice of self-love!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the BTAS program. It's a very intensive, content heavy program and it has taken me 14 months to complete the 8 modules. Amira is a delightful, super talented artist and a great instructor. The joy you see in her work is reflective of her upbeat personality and her personal warmth. I've taken a lot of online courses. My art definitely came a long way, but I had a hard time finding my own voice within them. This course has completely changed that. I have a strong connection to color and composition and I don't need to lean on more classes to move forward. I'm empowered. I no longer feel like I need to continuously sign up for courses.

I knew I needed to come back to it and so I signed up for this course to give me a jumpstart back in. I went from barely painting at all (like 1x every 4 months) to painting 8-10 hours a week. I would highly recommend this course to any artist who has lost track of their passion and love painting and is looking for a way back into it.

This is exactly what transformed within me during my eight weeks in the course. I can’t believe the internal changes that have taken place. The world may see a confident artist today, but it began with a mental transformation before ever transforming my skills. My old beliefs were transformed into self-love. They simply see brushstrokes and color. I see movement across the canvas that’s heart driven power or delicate strokes as my inner voice sings with joy. This is how I went from having hesitation and self doubt to courage, confidence and even some moxie. Now I see me on the canvas and that’s the best gift I received from this course.

I have followed Amira for many years and have admired her paintings because they were so vibrant. My participation in the program was to learn how Amira's paintings were created with so much vibrant color that complimented each other without clashing. When Amira talked about color and how to create neutrals, translucent and opaque paint, that was definitely an 'aha' moment. Not only did it make sense it provided a roadmap to combine and compliment almost any color palette which is what I needed. Composition was another challenge. She provided a new way to look at what you are creating and improve it 100%. For me, the reminder that talent is one thing but skill is another was invaluable due to the influence of 'intuitive' painting. Even to paint intuitively you must have some listening skills not just techniques. The homework was a lot but soooo worth it. I would recommend this program to any artist that has a challenge creating cohesive colors in their work and needs to open their mind to expand their artistic horizons and development.

I have just finished the 8 week BTAS course with Amira. My confidence has increased since beginning, and I’m excited as to where this journey will take me next. I’ve improved my understanding of colour and composition, and have appreciated the support of the coaches and my peers as I progressed through the weeks. I didn’t manage to join all the calls live due to time differences, but was grateful that replays were available.

I'm just finishing week 8 and I'm so relieved to feel like I'm on the right path! I've been an artist for many years while working full time as an interior designer, but this year I'm a full time SOLO artist and interior designer on the side! I've felt blocked, stuck and lost with the complete online art selling process and with Amira's class I learned why and now I'm finding my way again!

I can’t begin to express the profound change it my art and myself during these past 8 weeks. I’m kind of glad I never went to art school, otherwise I would never have found this course. It was worth every penny and then some. They absolutely flew by. This course not only gives you a solid foundation but it allows you to develop your own artistry. That is accomplished by painting from the inside out. Rather than learn route technique and copying, you are taught the foundation and encouraged to create your own version of it. Amira and her team are so supportive and authentic. They want to see you succeed. After 8 weeks I can see my own style emerging. This is the best course I’ve ever enrolled in.

I really enjoyed my time here In the eight weeks of better than art school. I’ve learned a lot and each assignment was great. Some of the assignments I breezed through and some of them I wrestled with. Amira is a very good teacher and she explained everything really well. Watching the bonus material helped me a great deal. I’m still working on my website and my Instagram. That will be my next step before I start selling my art online. I’ve already sold some of my work from word of mouth and having it on display in a salon. Now it is time to get serious about being a full-time artist. I love the color exercises because color is my bangs. Before I started this class I was painting a lot, And I was stuck a lot. I would get to a point in my paintings and not know where to go next. Enrolling in these classes simplified things for me in this area.

I re-arranaged my schedule to get up at 5am every morning and work through the course and to paint and I went through the last module over the weekend and this am. It helped me to build the habit of showing up daily for my creativity and to paint. It was thrilling to go back to the basics and re-learn about color + composition from Amira’s fresh perspective. I am “thinking” in color now, imagining paintings coming together in my head, even when I’m not painting and it gets me excited for my next painting session. I went from barely painting at all (like 1x every 4 months) to painting 8-10 hours a week. I would highly recommend this course to any artist who has lost track of their passion and love painting and is looking for a way back into it. Next up, I plan to start painting on much bigger canvas (I mostly painted small during the course) and dedicate even more time to painting (and marketing my work): 15-20 hours a week. I plan to revamp my website, moving it over to shopify and just keep leaning into the ongoing process of creative revolution that this course sparked for me.

I’d never tried abstract artworks before, I come from a fashion design, illustration background so it was a really wonderful way to explore a new way to create paintings. Colour theory was really useful, I feel like I know the secret formula now! The teachings have certainly inspired me to try out new ideas and colour combinations. I’d recommend the program to anyone that has an inkling to produce some art. You will learn so much about composition, colour and painting techniques.

Firstly, Amira has a lovely spirit which shines through in her teaching and that has been a big part of what I loved about this course. But - she is also a badass painter and there are so many lessons to learn. The lessons on colour, followed by mindset, have so far been the greatest for me. I finished all of the content in the 8 weeks (with a concerted effort) and I learned so much but you know when you wake up before you're ready and you feel like someone punched you in the face? I was that drained after the course so I'm only writing this 3 months after finishing the course. But after a little break, I have spent the better part of that time putting the lessons learned in this course into practice in my studio and the results and improvement in my work have been astounding. I still have much more practicing and growing as an artist to do, especially in terms of the composition work, and will be a forever learner, but this was an investment in myself, my skills and my passion that was worth making. I'm now at a place where I feel excited about and proud of my art, I have a regular studio routine, and I feel most empowered about my use of colour and my confidence in finally feeling ready to share my art with the world. The homework assignments were really helpful and some of them have become a part of my regular practice! I will always be grateful to Amira for shining her light and sharing her knowledge. I would recommend this course to anyone who is wondering why there work isn't quite working or selling, as well as those feeling like they need a boost as an artist, whether in terms of the way they see themselves as an artist and the life they can create with their creativity, or if their craft, style or business is just ready for a good shaking up!

Hi, my name is Roshni Patel (@TheDeziRani) and I have just completed 8 weeks within the BTAS program! This was a great way to dive into learning about creating abstract art but it was also an emotional and mental journey to learn more about myself as the creative I have always been. I have always been intrigued by abstract art, but prior to the course I had no idea how to approach it to create it myself. I already had knowledge on color and composition but I didn't really have the confident terminology for it all. Now I have the skills and knowledge as well as some confidence to go forth and start beautifying canvases with my abstract visions. Thank you!

Where to begin?! A self-taught artist, I found myself drawn to BTAS, my very first course of any kind, because I didn't want to learn how to paint like someone else...I wanted to find my own, unique style. I have stumbled upon that, I believe, or a road to explore, and so much more! Amira does a great job coaching students through the many aspects of Abstract painting. I come away with a better sense of color, values, composition & confidence. I have successfully worked through challenges, taught myself patience, explored abstraction & have come to adore and admire many Abstract artists, alive & gone from us. Prior to joining BTAS I was an self taught abstract artist. During Covid I started painting as a hobby on the side selling a couple of pieces here and there. I decided to take this course to learn more about composition and colors to better myself; because I want to start my own art business. Amira's teachings definitely created "WINS" for me!! I understand colors better in how they create emotions. I learned new techniques to show movement and layers in my work with more of a freestyle approach, reducing my creative time. She break processes down that's easy to understand and provides more detail than other online art classes I've taken. Very professional and open to students providing prompt responses to our questions. Also, being a big advocate of mindset goals, I really appreciated her mindset assignments! Another thing that sets her apart from other online art classes!! Overall this course is well worth it and a blessing!! I'm happy to be part of the BTAS Community!!

I am so happy I did this program! I was a self-taught "artist" but never called myself an artist, because while I could create a painting from a photograph, I had no idea about color and composition. I love Amira's teaching style, love color bridging, and I am loving finding a style that I can call my own. This course checked so many boxes for me. I’m a semi-self-taught artist and had been painting in various media for about ten years. Then I ran across Amira’s course. It has filled in so many gaps for me; some I didn’t even know I had! This course gave me confidence and basically an artistic makeover. It has helped me “see” differently and somehow made abstract painting make more sense. Hi I’m Dawn Bova owner/artist @heartworkbydawn. I’ve just completed Better Than Art School. Every single homework assignment in this course has helped me grow as an artist! Stretching me, pushing me to explore art through an entire entirely different lens. I’ve studied art and taken college courses but learning about color and composition with Amira has been the most important discovery for my development as an artist. My composition and style is beginning to take shape! Before better than art school I needed a photo or reference to paint something. However, with Amira’s course I now have the freedom to use my imagination and use photos as inspiration…but I don’t need them! I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is not afraid to pick up a paintbrush, whether you consider yourself a novice or an expert artist you will not be disappointed.

I signed up for BTAS thinking that I only needed help with understanding composition but it was so much more than I thought. The homework assignments gave me the necessary tools to explore my painting process and where I needed to take risks. I discovered that I love to work with blues and green tones such as mint, turquoise, viridian, aqua blue, and Prussian blue. I also found a new love for different shades of purple and pink. My work was super saturated before I started this program but now I’ve found a nice balance between neutrals and saturated colors. I was never a fan of muted colors but now see them as the missing links for my paintings. My work is starting to look more mature and I don’t have to wing it anymore. I have a better sense of composition and feel more confident starting and finishing a painting. This program was more than picking up new techniques. It helped shift my mindset and focus on the feeling behind my work. I learned to be vulnerable and take my raw emotions to the canvas. I took a break from posting my work on social media but I’m starting to feel ready to come out of hiding and share my work. Thank you Amira for sharing your knowledge and for what you do. So much to learn and my growth has been extraordinary in such a short time period. The home works were so enlightening and opened my eyes so much. My major colour breakthrough was discovering the versatility and importance of using neutrals in my work. I liked how The color assignments started from the very basic theories which were so necessary because a lot of us (myself especially) were not even aware of the difference between CYMK or RGB. I will watching the color lessons on repeat as I feel it is a valuable tool to go back to. The program definitely expanded my color palette and use colors I've never used before- reason being because I couldn't define before why some colors worked and some didn't. In the past, I thought I had to stick to the same colors to define my brand. But now I'm more open to using different color variations. I'm able to make clearer decisions about which shades work together and how to use neutrals. The assignment using 5 different emotions was also great because it pushed us to experiment with different styles. Lessons about Composition were also eye-opening, whereas before I never even knew what composition meant. Now I can look at any painting and be able to analyze it properly and why certain compositions are impactful and attractive. Now I feel more physically and mentally free when I paint. I past, I used to paint in a very structured and controlled manner while striving for perfection. There is a big weight lifted off my shoulders to paint without worrying about the outcome so much, feeling uninhibited, trusting my intuition while at the same knowing all the concepts and using them wisely. I used to get stuck on a painting and not know why. THen I would get frustrated and think maybe I can't do this. Although, i still have a way to go with my style, composition and color choices, at least now If I'm stuck, I can look at my own painting and know how to fix it. I"m not afraid to "ruin" the painting and now I can go into my "bag of tools" to figure out what the painting needs. I have more a process and now where and how to start a painting. And my style is getting there-not 100% yet, but its getting there! I would recommend this program to artists who feel stuck with their work and their business and especially if they feel they are not going anywhere. I feel empowered because I have more courage to share. The focus of mindset and positive thinking was a pleasant surprise that I did not expect. I decided to change my lifestyle and incorporate mindset into my daily living in order to be at my best while creating. Of course, Sarah's spirit was great! the coaches, Ana and Jessica were also supportive and honest and helped me see things while analyzing my own work. Amira, of course spreads her positive vibes which is contagious throughout the group. She also helped us focus on what's really important- to not strive for perfection but to enjoy/trust the process, focus on our gains, value our "learning paintings", put good energy into work and out into the world... The live sessions with the coaches were great, but I also would have loved more live sessions with Amira. Hope this feedback helps!

I have now completed the course. The colour theory was very helpful as I've never really mixed paints having always worked in pencil. It has made me more confident in my pencil work aswell so that's a bonus. It was very interesting to look at the composition of other artists paintings and learnt alot from the composition modules. It certainly made me to think more about what I am doing when I paint. Before, I have always just copied drawings so painting from scratch so to speak has been harder then I thought but also very rewarding. I know feel more confident and crucially, I'm not afraid to make mistakes whereas before everything had to be perfect. This course is good for anyone looking to expand there abilities. Some of the recommended mindset material has had a significant impact on my overall thinking as an artist and has really helped overcome some of the mental blocks I had towards my art. Imira is a very warm and giving person and is incredibly talented and supportive. Her teaching style is very relaxed and down to earth. Before BTAS, I describe my work as impressionistic, representational, and narrative painting. After BTAS, I am still describing my work as such, however, the difference now is that I am better equipped with knowing when, where, and how to abstract my forms. I struggled with solidifying a cohesive style that works for me across watercolor and oils, as they are very different in looks. After these eight weeks, I feel much more confident that I have a style that says this is my work, whether it's a watercolor or an oil painting. I'm not there yet, but I know how to get there, thanks to BTAS.

The weeks on color, layering, dark to light translucent to opaque were extremely helpful for me. There were a few things that I was doing incorrectly and just making those changes made a huge difference. It has made a huge difference in my confidence about my art as well as how well it’s being received. The homework assignments were challenging, and taught me so much about what makes sophisticated, appealing abstract art. Amira goes in depth on color and composition. Those two things sound so rudimentary, but it’s amazing that this stuff really isn’t taught anywhere. I have been taking art classes my whole life, and no one has taught me what I learned in her course. I am in my final week of the program. Not only do I feel confident in my art, I also feel more confident in myself - like a true role model for my artistic friends. I know I am inspiring others, and that feels great. When it comes to color, Amira clarified for me why I had been drawn to certain colors and how to use them - not sparingly, but liberally, and more effectively. Composition is a place I can continually up my game as I layer on a painting. The extra work pays off and is so gratifying when it reaches a good point. Before this, I was painting mostly animals, but craved doing more loose, abstract work. I wanted my work to be more impactful, less cutesy. My name is Crystal Johnson and I currently am running @chromatoseart on instagram. The homework assignments for this class really pushed my boundaries and expanded my views in painting. I suggest doing them all and coming back to them over and over again if you need to. Multiple times I worked through some of the color assignments over again as I prepared for my next homework assignment so everything builds on itself. I've finished the program and can't wait to spread my wings now. I now know that my paintings have depth, emotion, movement, and balance, painted with compelling colors and vibrancy. Transparency is a tool that has so many possibilities in my future work, truly the sky is the limit. Most of all, this program has taught me to not be afraid to tap into my spiritual side, and to tap into WHO I AM and not be afraid to show it. There is a lot of inner work involved in being an artist, and this is not the program for people unwilling to go deeper on an emotional level with themselves because it does get personal! I signed up for this course during a very trying time in my life. Between the already mounting strain of the pandemic, losing someone I love to COVID, battling Covid myself and raising 3 kids, a program that would require me to be present at specific times would have been a disaster. Luckily this self paced program gave me so much information, support and new knowledge without being another piece of pressure for me manage. In fact it was a wonderful escape. Over the (extended) 8 weeks my painting style has grown in leaps and bounds. My confidence, which I would argue was the most important thing for me, is worlds ahead of where it was before I started. Hi! My name is Meg Runyan and I joined the Better Than Art School program as a beginning artist. I was unsure of being surrounded by other artists, but I am so glad and proud that I did it. I am finishing up week 8 this week. The homework assignments helped me practice integrating what I was learning with the videos. I'm so glad I took the time to do them. And I plan to go through and do them again. I want to keep practicing and it's so fun to watch the "aha" moments come and have things click into place. I loved the color homework. I didn't at first, because I just wanted to play. But the lessons really helped me understand why I liked certain color combos and why I didn't like others. I learned tricks of how to put complementary colors next to each other to create dynamics in a painting instead of making it look childish. I'm still working on putting the composition lessons into practice. But now I have language to describe why I like certain works and not others. I feel much more empowered as an artist. I've been learning and relearning how to work past my inner critic. It has been such a huge help to have other artists around who share their struggles and I find they are so similar to mine. I decided last year that 2019 was going to be IT- the time for me to get serious with my lifelong artistry-which always got pushed aside when “life” happened. This is a great course for established artists if you are interested in a program to 'go on sabbatical' from your usual style and try something new.

I’m not even sure where to begin. My name is Philene Harston and I’m an abstract expressionist painter and Art Therapist. You can find me on IG @healingsrtistry. I also have an Etsy shop HealingArtistryCo. It’s currently naked but I’ll soon be fixing that! Before BTAS I was stuck. And I mean STUCK. I wasn’t sure I had what it takes and I wasn’t even sure I wanted to be a painter anymore. After all, painters paint, right? I wasn’t. Amira can tell you how much I waffled around about taking the course. You know why? I wasn’t sure I should invest that much money on me, my work. Stupid, right? Now I wished I had taken it sooner — but you do things when you’re ready. I was working as a Massage therapist (my former gig) and I was miserable. I would fantasize about these beautiful paintings I’d make once I got home. I was so exhausted after a day of massage that that rarely if ever happened. And when it did, I was frustrated I could never recreate that painting I’d dreamt of earlier in the day. I realize now that “painting” was already done. I had already painted it in my mind’s eye and it was ok to let it go. Paint NOW. Let it happen. Let go of preconceived notions. Learn to trust yourself. That’s the biggest win for me from BTAS. I learned to trust myself for possibly the first time. I just finished the 8 weeks of videos but I still have a lot of work to do. The assignments were challenging but fun — and always helped me identify who I am and where I’m going as an artist. I said this in a prior post but I have both my Bachelor’s in Fine Art and a Master’s in Art Therapy from a prestigious art school. I was never instructed on the use of color like Amira teaches it. Her color theory should be the standard and taught everywhere. I’d highly recommend you invest in yourself and take this course if you, too, are feeling stuck/in a rut/question your abilities. Doesn’t matter if you have a lot of experience like me, or only a smattering. You will still learn a lot to help you be the artist you want to be, were meant to be. I feel SO much more relaxed about art-making now. I allow myself to have fun, experiment, explore. It’s ok if I don’t paint a masterpiece each time. Now I know how to evaluate my own work (without beating myself up), and make corrections. What were formerly mistakes can now be breakthroughs. I know that now. I barely use color straight from the tube anymore. I realize I can make my very own gorgeous colors and how to use those colors to make my paintings harmonious. So what now? I’m going to finish my studio, finish the pieces I started (finishing the sides and varnishing), and put them out there for the world to see. And while I’m waiting I’ll make more art. My name is Tara Friend, live in Redondo Beach, California. I am new to this, so don’t have a website yet. Or any online sites. After I get some more large paintings done, I will work on setting something up online. Regarding homework assignments, honestly I didn’t complete all of them, or at least part of them, but I intend to go back and do them. It seemed like a lot, and am amazed at some of your students who have children and a busy life yet they find time to get the homework done. I completed the 8 week course in about 10 or 11 weeks. I got busy with other stuff so took a hiatus but now am ready to start painting again. I loved the color breakthroughs. Learning how to use color to create composition in abstract art was quite an insight for me. I love abstract but really had no idea how to go about it. The color breakthrough was most helpful. I am not like most of your students who seem to have been painting or doing art of some sort for most of their lives. I had done a few watercolors with my dad who loved painting with watercolors. I remember him telling me he thought I was very good, but I didn’t really get into it. I didn’t take up painting until I was 73. After a few years, I got very unhappy with it because I really didn’t like painting realism – sort of felt like why, when I can just take a photo of it. Which is why I was so happy to join your abstract art class. I haven’t done many paintings yet, mostly the exercises, and just one big painting that I am still working on. But I loved your course, and am going to go back over it to get myself up to speed. And I love your sense of color! So bright and alive. That is where I am at in terms of what I want to paint – alive and bright that makes people feel good and lifts their spirits. I would recommend your course to anyone who wants to learn abstract art and learn about how to use color. Even if new to art, or relatively new like me. I even think I might have had an advantage as I didn’t have a lifetime of previous painting methods and ideas to break free from. I think you are a lovely person and a very good teacher. I like your style of teaching, you are informative, and friendly and make the learning fun. I also like the BTAS facebook group, that we can post our work and get comments which help, and to see what others are doing. Very helpful. I am not ready to do a video, I hope this written testimony will do.

The BTAS program is fantastic for artists with experience. I'm a total beginner so it was a lot to digest. I will rewatch all the videos again and continue to practice. I was hoping for a step-by-step painting video, with the type and size of the brushes, etc. Thank you!

As an artist, having the right Mindset about creativity and the art process is really important. BTAS is great because it focuses on having a creative mindset that focuses on experimenting, rather than a critical mindset that focuses on the end result and results in judging. It also avoids the starving artist mentality without compromising artistic integrity. This is crucial for any of us who want to make a living doing what we love.

Better than art school is the best painting program I have ever taken. It has changed my paintings drastically and has made me believe it is possible to be a full time artist. I began BTAS in March as a successful art teacher, but a frustrated artist. This class was so good in helping me crack the code to making beautiful abstract paintings! I had some experience working in oil but I wanted to learn the fresh, fun and fearless ways of painting with acrylics that I saw online and in Amira Rahim's work. She does a great job of leading you and explaining. There is a moment about half-way, where we seemed to struggle. In my case it was due to being an overachiever and trying too much too fast, but very quickly we got over that hump, and the next weeks just flew by. It is work but it is the most fun work ever! The one that impacted me the most was making the color wheels, which seems simple but really helped me understand color relationships on a deeper level. I now feel confident mixing colors to make neutrals, which I never thought I could do. I’m still absorbing all the information from this course. Even this latest lesson on Evaluating Your Work gave me new information and insight into my paintings and why some are more desirable than others. I think I already had a good feel for composition, but I now understand the “why” behind the choices I make in my paintings. Before I started this course, my paintings were all “accidental,” and it was a bit difficult for me to deliberately reproduce a good painting. I also did not understand what made some of my paintings “good” and some flops. I knew intuitively that they were flops, but I didn’t know technically “why.” I had virtually no understanding of neutrals, and any neutrals in my paintings were pure accidents! I think anyone would benefit from this course. I’m fairly new to painting and self-taught up to this point, and it’s definitely helped me. I’ve also seen very experienced artists in this group take their work to a new and amazing level. I definitely feel empowered to take my art to the next level as far as quality and depth of interest. The other fun part about this course is learning about successful artists and being able to evaluate their work. I have a new appreciation for other people’s art and what makes it valuable.

I am SO glad that made a leap of faith by investing in this program. This has been the most intense but inspiring 8 weeks I have had. I honestly felt as if I was drinking from a fire hose at times, there is SO much information every week so it’s important to learn at your own pace and follow your gut when navigating the course material throughout the 8 weeks. Hello Amira, I am just finishing up my 8th week and moving along to the alumni group soon. I don’t have a website but, because of this course, I felt empowered to go secure my Instagram business name (Desiree Hildenbrand Creative). While it has nothing on it yet, that is a great first step for me 😊 I will first start by saying that I learned a TON in this class. I had never used acrylics before and am very new to any type of art. I took this class to gain a better understanding of color theory and composition and I believe that I got what I came for! I appreciate how you: • simplified concepts • made me feel that it is ok when I “ruin” a painting • that I just have to……start • gave me a small color palette to work with that I LOVE and am creating new and exciting colors every day • made me believe that I can actually do this • pushed me to think about things differently • taught me how to properly “steal like an artist” I definitely feel like I learned the most about color in this class. Color bridges was an absolute game changer for me as was Color breakthroughs. The composition portion of the class was helpful but certainly a difficult topic to teach! I don’t tend to interact on social media very often so the BTAS group was a little bit of a stretch for me. I posted comments, my works and questions. I would consider this a win for me. Honestly, that was the first time I had posted any of my art on social media. Pretty safe group to do that with but a great way to ease into it. I am looking forward to seeing how the alumni group goes and working towards developing some long-term relationships and, hopefully, mentors. The difference between where was at the start of class and today is like night and day. I have just finished my eight weeks in the program and this was the best investment I’ve made in myself in a long time. I will be debuting my pieces soon on my IG jeanmariestudio_art. I’ve dabbled in art since I was a child, but I was never able to create art that was dynamic on a regular basis. It was hit or miss and I didn’t know why. This program has helped me a gain a solid understanding on color, composition, values, even what types of paint to use and when to use them. The way I use and view color has been totally upgraded. I no longer feel stuck by a painting that is not turning out the way I want it to because I’ve been given the tools to “rescue” pieces that previously would have frustrated me to no end. There are so many more little gems I picked up along that way that have equipped and empowered me to take my art to a level that I thought was reserved for a select few. Yes, this course is for you! Thank you BTAS!

I have officially finished 8 weeks of BTAS. I am so grateful to have found this program! This time of COVID-19 left me wanting to make a change in my life and to start painting again. But I had so much self-doubt about my work that I was struggling with where to begin...until I found this program! For me personally, my biggest takeaways centered around color breakthroughs and the mindset to take while creating and towards your own work. I have not used black since starting this program (prussian blue is officially my new favorite color). I learned that the human eye sees value before seeing color which is something to check while creating (checking your values). Because of the homework assignments and lessons on color my work has become brighter and more vibrant. I am comforted by hearing that when I'm creating I should have a mindset that is focused on exploring and having fun (fear has no place in my studio!). Talking about money has always felt awkward but after hearing Amira say "list your prices and shut up" It has resonated with me. People who are able to truly see the value in my paintings will not have a problem with my prices and make a purchase. I am most empowered about the fact that my art has value - I believe that so seriously now. I am trusting my process and continuing on this path of being a working artist. Before starting BTAS it was almost impossible for me to make a painting where the composition "worked." I didn't like most of my paintings.Learning about color harmony and working with neutrals also was also a big breakthrough for me. I now feel empowered and trust myself to start selling my paintings. I struggled with the homework and as a result learned so much. I am 74 and not used to studying. Amira is a fantastic teacher! the most important thing I learned is to trust myself and be confident that I can sell my paintings. I would recommend this course to anyone that wants to learn the nuances of painting and sell their art.

I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in increasing their skills from beginners to those more advanced. One of the best parts of the program is the access to the coaches who critique the work and provide useful direction. The coaching calls on a variety of topics were all very helpful.

I've just finished the program - but I'm going to cycle through it again - as I've had a bit of time off. The colour & composition breakthroughs were fabulous with lots of amazing tips to progress your work. Before starting the course I didnt paint abstracts and now I do. I'd recommend this program to anyone who wants a structured and thorough program to progress your paintings quickly! Hi, my name is Ramona this course has been the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have been painting for about 20 years, on and off. Covid and the lockdown brought me back to it. Even though I painted for a while on and off I struggled always with color. My understanding of color is good since im a hairstylist/ colorist but for some reason I always endet up muddy or feeld lifeless. My paintings have been very realistic, liked to paint roses what I maybe will do at some point again but with the knowledge I have from this course. I tried actually different courses in the past and I tell you I could have saved my money! I couldn’t figure out the composition or color to be powerful but harmonious at the same time. This course makes so much sense, it has an amazing structure to follow. The team is very competent and willing to answer any questions. live calls are amazing and the homework.... the homework is not little, especially working behind the chair and taking care of my family gave me some sleepless nights. But sleepless in a good way, excited for the new week to be released and having a reason to close the door and dive into. I learned so much I can not even describe all. It’s this all over knowledge I got, the confidence that I can do more then I think. The homework was often out of my comfort zone, but this let me grow so much. I’m ready for the next chapter I know I don’t stop painting gain, I will make money now! This is my passion and Amira and Team helped me to find myself in this process. Amira Rahim generously and sincerely provides a systematic, well designed course to introduce, lead, demonstrate key concepts, ideas, techniques to create salable abstract paintings. She has a talent for being able to convey this information and give helpful examples. The information on how and why to use colors, styles of abstraction, making marks for added value all very helpful. She is positive and encouraging!

All of the video calls with coaches were so helpful, and the homework was as well. My aha moment was the values section and checking lights and darks by changing photos to grayscale. I also learned so much about composition and it's exciting to be able to look at other artist's work and know WHY it's good (as opposed to liking something but not really understanding why). I struggled with the mindset piece at first, but now I have a regular affirmation practice and I've seen the benefit firsthand, experiencing amazing "coincidences" soon after setting an intention or expressing gratitude. I would recommend this course to any artist who needs a confidence boost!

I can't believe I am approaching my last day in the program. This program was more than I had ever expected it to be. I learned color and got over my fear of using color. I learned composition even though it is still a struggle I have simple strategies to use to help me. This is just what I needed after the loss of my parents. I’m much more free as an artist. Now I have a process /guideline where to start. I know to add more values to a piece as well as a composition- things I didn’t know before! also how to make a work more visually interesting! Focus on Mindset was also an unexpected plus of this program

BTAS has taught me a lot that I never knew about color and composition. I love how mindset was a huge aspect of the program which I didn’t expect. Amira shares her beliefs to embrace the process of learning and to have the courage to share your art with world no matter what phase you happen to be in. I feel freer as a painter and less inhibited. I feel we touched on personal struggles/topics during class discussions that you will not be able to find elsewhere. The only critique I have would be that I wished there were more live discussions/classes with Amira. However all the coaches were great and supportive and it was great to get feedback from different types of artists.
