I bought a spot in J’s Character Class Pro group around 2 years ago. At the time I was already working in the industry, making what I didn't know at the moment, past-gen characters. Unfortunately the classes didn’t fit my schedule and I failed to catch up. A year later I lost the job due to a budget cut. Because standards had risen while I was “locked” in the studio I ended up with a lot of competent yet plain-looking characters in my portfolio and thus failed at my endeavors at finding a new job. This class was exactly what I needed to get up to date with the Unreal workflow. You don't get taught a bunch of tools you'll never use. just the Unreal workflow that actually matters. I really liked the focus on texturing as well. It gave me a great understanding of how to break down materials and what I need to look for when I texture my models. Seeing the final result in Unreal with no render time and being able to do lookdev in real-time. I'm doing it this way from now on. If you want to learn a complete professional workflow for creating a character in Unreal Engine, take this class.

I've personally purchased many courses online regarding 3d characters. I always felt unsure starting a project without having some tutorial video to follow as a pamphlet. I'm writing this after closing my first character with this course and i'm alredy confident enough to start doing new characters with a strong methodical base without having to depends on tutorials, always having the tools to go back without making a mess. The planning and the tecniques are super clear to understand. J explained a clear and dope process i already started adopting and suggesting to others as it's the most senseful i've find in the many courses i bought. If it's possible, i highly suggest enrolling in the pro version to have a chat in the weekly livestreams, which also helped me bond with other people. Credits to the community on discord, i've felt super welcome in it and the opportunities to bond and chat are a lot, going from asking for help to watch a movie together. If you're stuck looking for courses this is one of the very few to need.

This is a very good course with valuable information that guides you through the complex process of character creation. I must say this is for those advanced in 3D. Even though every video is very precise and with absolutely great points you don’t see the whole process from A to Z. For serious anatomy practice, sculpting in general, hair placement or costume creation you have to take this course along with others too. But here is the thing J gives you in this course: structure. This is the most important thing in how you approach a character. All the rest and your own tools you are going to find them inevitably along the way. The interviews in J’s course are GOLD. Super helpful because they show the reality behind the craft. I am glad I took this course! J is very inspiring and even though 90% of the internet says this form of art is dying he is there to remind us it’s not. I am just getting started but I already have some small commissions and I recently won a contest with a good money prize too. So I definitely recommend this class and I can’t wait to jump on my next character project.

This Character Class has been an incredible experience, clear, detailed, and thoughtfully structured. I started this course last year to help me level up my skills during my final semester of film school. The course goes step by step in pipeline of making a game ready character and even has a ton of interviews with industry professionals. It was so in depth and got me comfortable with that pipeline really quickly. Even now when I'm feeling stuck, I can still go back to the videos to help. This was definitely one of the best decisions I took. I began my journey as a 3D artist by being a self taught artist. This course was amazing not only to consolidate the things I knew, but it showed me a whole world of techniques and industry information that would be very hard to find on my own. And I think this is one of the most important things the course offers, being able to learn directly from J and his team is something that helps you grow immensely. Touching on that, they do their best so everyone can have feedback sessions and guide you through the whole 8 weeks. Compared to other experiences you never feel like you're alone making your project all by yourself. Character Class with J was an amazing experience. It was so insightful to receive feedback from an artist you look up to. I think mentorships are the best way to grow fast as an artist - I really can’t recommend it enough. As someone who was a part of the first class, the fact that we also get lifetime access to both the course itself, as well as the new content which was added in later iterations is super helpful. I definitely found myself going back and replaying some of the videos while working on my latest character. It really came in handy. I also love that a good portion of the class is dedicated to both the pre-production phase as well as the presentation of the work. I feel like these parts are often overlooked but are the key to creating impactful artworks. I decided to take part to Jason's Character Class as I wanted to get better with anatomy and polishing characters. JHill was very active in the Discord chat as well. What I liked most was the well-edited and structured videos, which made the learning experience both enjoyable and impactful!

I liked this course very much for it's engaging and supportive atmosphere. Classmates were always trying to help each other, and seeing everyone's progress was incredibly motivating. Of course J was a great part of it, he made sure we had all information and resources we needed, provided valuable feedback and paid extra attention to those who were stuck. I really enjoyed these eight weeks, and as a result I feel much more confident about my art and have a great project in my portfolio.

8-weeks course felt SHORT when you are engaged each week. This course helped me create the best character I have made for my portfolio. Although J's approach of teaching is both relaxed and unique, don't let his casual mannerism fool you into thinking that this class is low-stake. He'll challenge you each feedback session with his critique, and he'll follow up on it the next week. I expected a class, but I got a training ground. And I am grateful for it.

Creating a 3D character is a huge undertaking. Before following the class, I used to easily get overwhelmed as every part of the pipeline felt like a hurdle to overcome. During the 8 weeks, we broke down that process into manageable tasks. Having J’s guidance throughout the process allowed me to feel a certain sense of confidence and really focus all my energy onto each specific step of the way. This ultimately empowered me to create my best character to date! In addition to that, every week we had the chance to hear from a different guest speaker which related to the topic at hand. These talks were all incredibly insightful and allowed us to hear alternate perspectives which perfectly complemented J’s teachings. If you are like me and enjoy the way J conveys information on YouTube, then I truly think you will gain a lot from this class. It is packed to the brim with insight but delivered in a super smooth and easy to internalize way. I will definitely refer back to the videos for my upcoming character projects!

Although I already had a little bit of level when I entered the course, I liked to polish and learn new techniques to keep improving my level. The course is very pedagogical, it has changed the way I see many things and the interviews have been brilliant! If you want to truly upgrade your skills - this course is for you! I am relatively new in 3D modeling, so I was hoping I could learn a process of real-time character creation just like they do it in the industry, but at the end of the course, I got more than I even expected. I got valuable guidance and support of real professionals, it helped me to complete my work on time and I got a beautiful new artwork that I could add to my portfolio. J gathered a wonderful community of highly talented people who also helped each other through the process under J's guidance. This was a truly amazing and valuable experience for me. I am very satisfied with the course and I highly recommend it to everyone who is trying to become a professional 3D character artist.

I really enjoyed the class and truly grew up as an artist! J Hill is a great teacher, he definitely has a talent for explaining things and sharing his knowledge. I found useful information in all of the videos and it was just great to see a pro work on the model! I'm super glad that I took that class. I've learnt a lot, not only from videos but also from asking questions. J was really helpful during the whole process. Quality of the videos and live sessions was more than I expected. A chance to listen and ask questions to other awesome artists during live sessions was really eye-opening. On top of that we've built an awesome Discord community - helpful, kind and funny :) Highly recommend to anyone who is interested in character art. :)

The class was a blast! J has put together a course full of knowledge and experience on making character art from start to finish. As well as built a strong classroom community!

After completing the course, I received more than I expected. In just 8 weeks we went through the entire character creation pipeline. The course was very rich and interesting—many guests from the game development industry. The atmosphere on the course is also very cool, all the students are very nice and helpful. What could be improved I think - more time for retopology and UV, because I'm new to 3D, I'd like to understand what the studios' requirements are for this. - I think feedback could be given in short videos to each student in the recording. Of course, online meetings are more interesting, but I think it would be more effective for you and the students. Thanks again for the course J. I liked everything very much, perhaps when my financial situation is better I will take this course with your mentoring.

Really great class, I enjoyed the format, quick and to the point videos. I came out of it with one of my best characters and will take this knowledge to my next projects.

Incredible! I knew very little about creating game characters prior to this class. It has since provided all the knowledge and resources I'll need to keep creating awesome character art! The level of support you get through the class discord is fantastic. It's a great community all willing to help each other reach the same goal!

I can't express my feelings that much, it was a great journey . Jhill did his best . I learned a lot and it was more than I expected . It was a life changing experience in 3D really. This is the best course for 3D I ever had by far. J is an amazing teacher, he helps whenever he can the students. The meetings were very nice to meet people from different specialists and industries. And of course, the classes are exactly what he promises, short videos that can teach you really fast whatever the topic is. So all I can say is great value, great couse!! Thank you J Hill!!!

Hands down the best course that I have. Better than actually university courses. Everything is nicely structured, well organized and it comes with a community that is there to support you when you need it. I had blast taking this course and I will definitely enroll in future courses that J will produce. 5/5* an there's no doubt about it.

I have been in the 3D world for 2 years. I am trying in every possible way to gain knowledge, I have attended many courses and had personal mentoring from people who have been in the industry for a long time...however, I have never been able to find a complete picture to put together a project in all phases. This course is so well designed that I have no words, the videos are not long, which is important because they keep the concentration and cover everything that is necessary for the given topic...the guests he brought were also excellent and very helpful, but what in my opinion the best thing is that J is always there to answer. From the very Q&A and work checks that solve most of the doubts, but also extremely regular answering of discord questions! In any case after this course I have fulfilled the assignment that J gave...Make the best work yet. I really think that it is the best in every sense, and the biggest improvement I notice is the texture and of course everything related to Unreal Engine because I haven't used it until now.

I really liked the quality of the videos, how he explains, how active he was on the discord, and I really appreciated his feedback! Since I started taking this class I feel that I have improved in several areas such as texturing, modeling, haircards and this has increased my confidence when making a character! :D

This class allowed me to, not only improve my skills as an artist, but also how to planned my work. J is also a great instructor who would take the time to make videos to give feedback and tips. After this course, not only i have more confindence with my skills, but i can comfortably say to people that i am a character artist.

I am already experienced in 3D as I finished uni in it so I can't speak as a beginner but I really enjoyed going through every step of the process together. I struggle with realistic timelines and the homework bit helped me set specific and achieveable goals. I already started working on another character now and I am still applying generally the same timeline of everything for my personal deadlines now. Going through everything together was very reassuring and I definitely learned more than a few neat tricks and techniques that I am going to start including in my personal work from now on. For me personally learning more about how J approaches texturing was the best bit as it really helped me push my character further and it was something that was a bit overwhelming to me before. In general I think J is a really talented teacher and he manages to break down anything in a really simple easy to absorb way. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who wants to make a full character as this course is super easy to go along with! :)

I had very high expectations, and I must say that the mentorship with J met them in every way. My skills have greatly improved under his guidance, and I've gained a thorough understanding of character art workflows and best practices. I don’t think I could have fully grasped all aspects of 3D Character art without Jason’s teaching techniques. He has a way of breaking down complex subject matter and distilling it down into something concise and digestible for students.

J is awesome instruction. All of his lectures are easy to understand and I had fun to watch it. He gives a lot of things which are very difficult to find on boards or other tutorials. And his advices were very helpful on Q&A sessions and homework reviews. This was one of the best courses I ever took.

Exceptional course that presents an all-encompassing approach to character creation for video games. At the risk of sounding cliche, it's actually everything that you would expect from such a course, and a lot more. It has a solid sequential structure, it covers a huge amount of topics that can help you tackle problems no matter what style of character you're working on, and is taught in a very straightforward manner. Jason is a great teacher. He's a true professional, with occasional jokes and sense of humor throughout the recorded lectures, and a super down-to-earth attitude in the QA sessions. He's knowledgeable, approachable, and just an overall great guy to talk to.
