I really enjoyed the Table Thai Shoulder & Scapula class with Charlene Gaffney! Charlene was a wonderful instructor—knowledgeable, easy to follow, and great at making sure we understood not only the techniques, but how to actually use them in our own practice. The class was hands-on, enjoyable, and very practical. I left feeling like I learned something I can begin incorporating into my massage sessions immediately, which is exactly what I hope for from a continuing education class. I’m excited to start using these techniques with my clients and would absolutely take another class with Charlene!

Rachel Gard
Video transcript: Hi, my name is Rachel Guard and I've been a massage therapist for 10, a little bit over 10 years now. And I own Wolf Overt Massage Therapy and I'm located in Collierville, Tennessee in the Memphis area. I have worked for myself for, since 2021 and I worked at Lifetime for a little bit before that and I worked at a casino for about a year, my first year as a massage therapist. One of the best things I love about being a massage therapist is how I help people feel better and how I help them function and move. It doesn't have to be deep tissue, but that is my specialty. I really do well with doing deep tissue. Now not everybody is deep pressure deep tissue type of client and that's different based on the pressure versus the application of how you apply it on a client. And I've known Charlene for gosh, when I can't remember what year I first started. I started with Thai massage like the floor at the Mat Tie. I took a class in North Carolina. Her class that she does every year, that's like a three day class and everybody gets to work on each other. And I think sometimes it can be a big class and sometimes it can be a small class. I've done some of her other classes in different locations because it's not always in Memphis and she, she teaches at different locations. So I have always wanted to do a mixture of Thai massage and Ashiatsu. And this last year I started last March doing the first level of the Ashiatsu basics, like the barefoot basics. Then I did the three day one footed Ashitsu. My goal is to eventually get to the advanced level. But so far my clients have loved me doing Asiatsu. Now I would say about 20% of my clients do deep tissue Ashitsu and the other, you know, 80% is just kind of like a moderate to normal pressure because not everybody can handle it. So Thai massage, like the floor tie. I don't actually do the floor tie here. I don't have enough space for it. And the type of clientele that I have is not really the type of clientele that is really interested in that type of work, which is fine. I do table tie now I do Ashiatsu. I have the bars up here. You know, I really have loved the classes so far I have not taken the second one, which is a two footed one. I have not done that one yet. And so I really loved how Charlene explains each movement and how she is really good with teaching the classes. And she's, I think she's one of the best teachers out there that I've ever taken from any type of continuing education. So as of right now, I have some people that will rotate between, like, Ashitsu and then just normal, therapeutic deep tissue. And so I get it done myself. I try to get it done once a month from someone who does all shiatsu, and I try to do it therapeutic as well. I've had some clients who are really hardcore active workout holics, and they really like me working on their legs and their lower back because they do CrossFit type of training and competitions. So they get really tight, and their favorite areas have always been the lower back and the glutes, especially with the legs. And sometimes their calf muscles have been one of the best areas. Let me see. I look forward to taking more classes. I think next spring might be my next class I'll be taking with Charlene. And I am really excited that she's been doing this, I think, for 10 years now. And it's amazing that she's accomplished all that she's accomplished because she does well, and it has helped my business do well because of the education I've received. Thank you for taking this time to listen to me. Y' all have a great day. Bye.

When I first began studying Thai Massage, I was looking for a way to help people move with greater ease and comfort. What I discovered through Elevate Massage Training was so much more than a collection of techniques—it completely changed the way I think about movement, body mechanics, and therapeutic touch. Today my practice focuses primarily on working with individuals living with Parkinson's disease. I combine assisted stretching, Thai Massage, assisted stretching, and gentle movement to help reduce rigidity, improve posture, restore mobility, and help my clients feel more comfortable in their own bodies. I also teach yoga, Reiki, and Past Life Regression, but helping those with Parkinson's has become one of the greatest passions of my career. I was drawn to Elevate Massage Training because I wanted to expand my skills beyond traditional massage and learn movement-based techniques that could make a real difference in people's lives. The quality of instruction, attention to body mechanics, and practical, hands-on approach immediately stood out. One of my biggest takeaways was learning how effective gentle, intentional movement can be. Rather than trying to force a stretch, I learned to work with the body, creating movement that feels safe, comfortable, and effective for both the client and therapist. Those lessons have become the foundation of my work. Many of the stretches and movement principles I learned through Elevate are incorporated into every Parkinson's session I provide. Over the years, I've adapted and expanded those techniques to meet the unique needs of clients dealing with rigidity, balance changes, and limited mobility. One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing clients stand a little taller, walk with longer strides, breathe more deeply, or simply tell me they feel like themselves again after a session. Those moments remind me why I chose this profession. The impact of this training has extended beyond my treatment room. I'm currently developing a continuing education course for massage therapists on Therapeutic Stretching for Parkinson's disease so more therapists can confidently and safely work with this underserved population. In many ways, that course grew from the foundation I built through Elevate Massage Training. I'm incredibly grateful for the education I received and for being part of the Elevate community. The skills I learned continue to influence my work every single day, and they have helped shape both my practice and the path my career has taken.

Video transcript: Hi guys. Nydia Basinger here. I am a massage therapist from Forest City, Arkansas. I met Charlene through another CE lady in Germantown. I was very interested in bear food. In my very personal opinion, I think that's the the best way to deliver deep tissue. After taking her Ashitsu courses, it leads me to take that Thai classes. I continue taking Thai classes this year. I have taken all the Rx classes which I really really love. I can move from the mat to the table. So I love that. I love the way Charlene's gives out her classes. Her ce they are by the book. She's. She sticks to a script, she sticks to a date, she sticks to a time. That for a very crazy person that is so helpful for me. I just love Charlene. She stays true to who developed this type of massage. I love that she begins her classes with a little bit background of Thai massage or a Shiatsu massage. That's one of my favorite parts of Charlene. I cannot wait to travel with her in the fall of 2028. Thank you Charlene for doing this and I hope you come up with more CE to take. And I cannot wait to continue taking classes this year. Congratulations in your 10 year anniversary of elevated massage training.

This class was awesome! I had gotten to where I felt like I hated being forced to do CEU’s because the other classes I have taken over the last 10 years never pulled me in and I felt like the classes would drag on and never end. The stretch to seated Thai class brought my excitement back into massage therapy, where I felt like I was stuck! The class flew by and I learned so much that I can’t wait to use in my practice! I will for sure be taking more of Charlene’s classes in the future, and can’t wait!

The content is thorough and the owner, also the instructor of the class, has extensive bodywork experience and is extremely knowledgeabe. The class sizes are not too big. Elevate is by far my favorite CEU provider! I just finished taking my 3rd class and all the have been incredible! Charlene is very thorough as she goes through the material. She is very encouraging and has the most kind, gentle spirit. I also love how she really hones in on each persons body mechanics, especially foot positioning that may need to be slightly different due to height differences with the working therapist. I can not recommend her courses enough!

After 6 years of practicing Ashiatsu, I had become interested in adding more techniques to my barefoot massage toolkit. I decided to try the training program at Elevate Massage and I’m so happy I did. The creator of the program has extensive knowledge and experience with barefoot massage and it comes through in the training program. I have reinvigorated my massage career once and again and my long time Ashiatsu clients absolutely love the new techniques I have learned. I look forward to completing the barefoot massage program in it’s entirety. Thank you, Charlene!

Elevate Massage Training is a great company. My first class was with Charlene in Nashville Tn, 2018. I signed up for the Thai Open and Ground weekend course.  I loved the small class. I loved the venue. Charlene was so comfortable with her teaching and training. One day the whole class went to eat at a cozy Thai restaurant down the street from the venue, the food was delicious! Lots of smiles and laughter; everything about the weekend was one to remember. I enjoyed her and her teaching style so much I decided that I wanted to join on with her graduate program. In 2019, I traveled to Thailand with Charlene for their yearly Thailand training adventure. The trip was amazing. Every part was amazing but if I had to choose a best part it was the elephant sanctuary. I want to move to Thailand and become a mahout!        The main reason I took this class was because I had prior training in Shiatsu, 2004. I also wanted to become more comfortable with mat work.  Most of my clients weren’t interested with Shiatsu on the mat. They were more comfortable with Shiatsu on the table. But after working for 15 plus years on the table, it was time for a change. The Elevate Massage Training program helped me with that change. I have broadened my skills and knowledge of mat style practice. I now have clients that only want Thai/Shiatsu on the mat. I intend to continue taking courses with the company and I one day hope to return to Thailand for another trip. Charlene is a great person to travel with and a wonderful teacher. She shares the same enthusiasm and wonder in her practice as I do.   “You are never to old to learn and never to young to teach. Reach within and learn from others”                                                                                                                                        ~author unknown~

The school and teachers were awesome. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the island excursion was a nice progression and I feel as if we saw a lot for a short amount of time. Our business vs. free time ratio was good, too. You did a great job planning and making us feel at home in Thailand wherever we went. The elephant day was literally the best day of my whole life. I appreciate and feel honored to have had the opportunity to share this with you.

I recently completed my third training session with Charlene. Wow! Her passion for Thai bodywork is contagious and her teaching style all but ensures retention of everything she shares throughout the course of the workshop. She makes herself available well beyond the classroom for support, information, and encouragement. You feel like she invests herself personally in you as a therapist and wants to see you succeed! I highly recommend taking this journey with her. You and your personal massage therapy practice will benefit greatly!

An amazing trip!  Thailand is a beautiful land with beautiful people.  The Thai massage training has added new techniques and knowledge to my 20+ years as a therapist. Receiving massages almost daily is something we should all experience! Charlene did a wonderful job of scheduling each day, leaving flexibility for personal time.  I felt like I had my own personal tour host and  never had to worry about a thing. Charlene was on-top of everything.  Scheduling can get out of hand easily, but I never felt that.  Our needs were always met.  Charlene made this trip look easy!  When a trip like this goes so smoothly, it’s easy to think there’s not much to it - when in reality, there are a lot of things to handle. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for this grand adventure!

I highly recommend this trip as a Massage Therapist! You will not only fall in love with the sights, food and people of Thailand but you will also find a reinvigorated passion for the art of massage. This trip not only exposes you to all that is actual authentic Thai Massage, but it also gives you a solid understanding of the culture influences behind the scenes. I would seriously recommend any massage therapist to take this trip! I will be going back in the near future to learn more.

I just completed my third workshop and I want to keep coming back for more. I took two in Thai massage and one in barefoot bodywork. My instructor, Charlene, is a rare treasure in this community in that she is able to communicate information in detail, listen to students compassionately and respectfully and provide support as we seek to improve ourselves as therapists. I would recommend these workshops to any massage therapist who might be considering furthering their career.
