I came across Sam on Threads, where she posts very high quality content which helped me understand that many of the things I struggle with are an 'introversion' issue rather than a 'me' issue. This manual is a natural extension of that. I am grateful to have the language to understand and explain myself. This is an essential resource for anyone who is an introvert or has an introvert in their life.
Sam's book is a revelation for introverts like me. I don't think I've ever encountered such profound insights into my own behaviour, especially "going through motions of a conversation" and finding myself metaphorically in a different place "behind glass". This book is a vital learning tool for the workplace, as managers need to learn how to benefit from the incredible resource that is the deep-thinking introvert in their employ. Sam's research is excellent, her advice spot on. Insightful and illuminating.
I’ve always considered myself an introvert, and while there are many situations where I can think on my feet or comfortably step into the spotlight, I often found myself wondering why my brain didn’t seem to work in quite the same way as others. Over time, I’ve realised that I communicate best through writing. I’m thoughtful and considered in my opinions, direction and decision-making, and that process takes time. This guide gave me clarity around how to better understand and lean into those strengths. More importantly, it helped me see that my way of thinking and operating isn’t wrong, bad or defective, it’s simply different. Equally valuable, and in the right environments, deeply appreciated. Highly recommend!
I've spent 30+ years working in the U.K. for a large American company. I've learned how to behave and what is expected, but none of it ever felt natural or comfortable and I just assumed the tiredness and challenges were just part of corporate life. Having read Sam's Introvert OS, which incidentally is really ease to read unlike a lot of other self help guides, I've now understand the cost of "performing extroversion" and am starting to appreciate the value in unlearning some of my extrovert bad habits and actually embracing how I'm wired. If like me you've always felt that something wasn't quite right, that you were misaligned with the majority expectations, and if like me you had been behaving as an extrovert for so long that you feel imposter syndrome if you considered that maybe your wiring is introverted, then I can fully recommend spending a few pounds on Sam's Introvert OS Manual...
