Video transcript: Hey, my name is Jason Whitehurst. I'm the owner of futuresafe, which is an MSSP for msps. As soon as I heard about IR Game from one of our clients, actually, I felt like it was absolutely a requirement for us to run the game and see what it's like with Bob. I wanted to see whether the many, many ransomware cases and becs that we have under our belt for our clients, clients and folks that were referred to us translate it to us being able to make good decisions internally if something were to happen to us. So I had the whole team involved, we went through the exercise and we did quite well, but we also had some solid learning opportunities about particularly around making decisive decisions with whatever information we have and not letting time get better of us as we needed to proceed, and also not spending too much time on things that aren't altogether that important in relation to what we needed to take care of right away. The follow up from that and the review is solid and we like it so much that we're going to recommend this product and potentially offer it to all of our MSP clients so that they can help their clients run the game before they have to do it in real life. Hopefully they don't have to, but if they do.

As a student, much of my coursework focuses on the technical side of cybersecurity. My interest is in the area where technical and nontechnical teams meet, and IRGame gave me an opportunity to understand something my coursework has not provided. Participating in the event gave me even more resolve to continue on the path less taken. While my classmates are focused on the technical side, I want to understand how to translate meaningful information between both types of teams to support the best and safest outcome for organizations.

Incredible platform. Love getting to see different points of view in the decision making process. The game increases the stress without the risk, but the emotion is still there. Looking forward to every opportunity to see what else gets created.

I liked the exercise; I'm thinking who else would benefit from this as well as much as I did. The scoring system was a little confusing at first. I believe I would enjoy this more if I did it again as now, I know how everything should be scored.

Beltex Insurance has been leveraging IR Game for our MSP partners and policy holders for a year now. The data does not lie - the more prepared a business is, the faster the incident gets contained, the sooner they're back to 100%, and it minimizes the cost of claims!

I liked the time constraints given to make decisions, it elevated the pressure and although stressful, made it a lot of fun. Really opens your eyes to ALL the potential needs of a well rounded IR plan and team.

IRGame was an amazing experience, I had recommended it to one of my analysts at an end user client and she was also amazed at how the format made you think and work towards a more complete IR program.

This was a great way to team up with a lot of other people involved with IR; invaluable for those who work at SMBs like myself. We were able to get a diverse set of viewpoints, and specifically with the IRGame I participated in, we were able to get into the details of how to properly implement AI in the workforce, and how various roles in an organization need to respond to an AI incident when it happens. I look forward to participating in more IRGames!

IR Games creates an environment that feels real and is “safe to fail”. It’s an invaluable tool for IR Teams to test the skills, as well as any IT professional. It brings multiple components of a company and has them all work together to bring the company out on the other side of an incident. I really enjoyed the scenario we had as it was very applicable to our current climate in IT.

Video transcript: So one of my thoughts about IR Game is I think it's phenomenal. It's great because it simulates an incident without having to be in an actual incident, which I find is great because no one wants to go through that. Now. The cool thing about this is that you're able to work with other individuals. Whether you're in information security or you could be like a cyber insurance, the CEO. It doesn't really matter what part of the department you are within a company is that we get to work together and get to see different insights from one another. So you don't have to necessarily be an IT individual to be able to play this. You could be CEO, vice president, anything like that, board member and you could take place to see what it's like to be part of an incident, which I think is great. Also on top of that, when you work with other IT individuals and most of them I didn't even know when I first joined in and now it's my third time doing it. And I think it's great because you get different perspectives. Also you go through different procedures that you have and you can also start thinking about maybe you're missing something in your procedure or maybe you could refine the way it's written in the procedure and go off that to make some adjustments to make it easier. So if you do run into an incident, hopefully not that way, you're able to run through it smoother and quicker versus different way you had it, which could cause some confusion. So by doing this, it opens so many different perspectives that you may not even realize. So I think it's a great collaborative way, but also to network with other like minded individuals, you and maybe not even similar individuals, maybe people in different departments. So I think it's great, I recommend it and I even tell my friends about it as well. So go ahead and take a look at it and join one of these events. If you're thinking about it, I just say go for it.

IR Game is a great resource to teach big picture thinking in the event of a cybersecurity event. This exercise is non-competitive, meaning each team has a different scenario. Teams must work collaboratively to spend resources efficiently and respond timely to fluid situations. Quick communication and cooperation are paramount to success. This is not just a game for individual technical contributors, as the scenario I played had roles for executives, technical, legal, finance, marketing, etc. Also, these roles are dealt randomly meaning players may find themselves handling something that is outside of their day-to-day role. This is a great game to teach players how cybersecurity events stretch beyond just the silos of Information Security within an organization with much consideration to the human and psychological elements of such an event. Everyone will learn something from playing at least once!

I came into the IR Games with virtually no technical background and was blown away at how "real" and engaging the game was. It was an awesome exercise and really opened my eyes to just how many people across an organization need to be involved to deal with an incident response. I cannot recommend this event enough. No matter what your technical background or role within your organization, you will learn a lot and get to collaborate with some amazing people. -Austin A. Senteon

Haven't tried IR Games yet? You're missing out. If you do, you'll see (and pretty quickly) where you can make some changes in your business practices. Build a communications plan. Keep it current. Plan for foibles and messes amidst the main mess. Understand that what happens in the exercise is awful so that you can minimize the awful if you face it in life. I've done 3 scenarios, and every one gets better.

The game communicates the first hand experience of high stakes IR scenarios in a fun and engaging way. I learned about the real world pressures, stakeholders, uncertainties, and resource scarcity involved in responding to an unfolding cyber attack. The creators have experienced the real thing. This knowledge is critical for organizations that want to outlive inevitable cyber attacks impacting their users and infrastructure.

IR Games is a cooperative experience that brings together people of different backgrounds and places us in roles in handling a simulated incident. The game is strategic in nature, yet accessible for tacticians as well. With a heavy emphasis on collaboration and role playing, the scenario is realistic and not overly technical, perfect for cross-functional information security teams. Despite the relative age of the game, it is polished and feature complete, and is made better by employing breakout rooms for each team to play in. The rules are simple and intuitive, involving the various roles in a logical round-based simulation. These folks are on to something. Give it a try!

Immediate Response Game is an activity that decision maker in every organization can benefit from. The game helps build an understanding of the impact--emotional, physical, financial, operational, and reputational--and effects of a cyber incident. It also helps leaders understand the decisions that need to be made, the tradeoffs that may be imposed by limitations on resources and notifications and communications requirements. It also helps improve incident response plans. These games can be used over and over; there's always something new to learn as the environment is continuously evolving. If you haven't yet, you NEED to participate in an IR Game.

Participating in the IRGame brings more realism to the group than any tabletop that uses conversation only, which is most. This adds a level of realism and interactivity that gets as close to a live IR without taking down any systems. As a client advisor, participating in IRGames allows you to view the experience from the client side, which will give you a different perspective and elevate your recommendations.

Video transcript: Hi, it's Anne from Ikaru, and I highly recommend that you check out IR game. That's incident response game. It's a great tabletop exercise. You can play over Zoom. What I love about the game is that it's played against a timer, so you have the pressure of an incident. Also, everybody plays a different role. So different roles have different pieces of information they can work with, and they have different capabilities that they're able to accomplish within the game. You can mix up so that somebody who's normally on a technical team is on a different team, so they can see what that works out as, and it really generates a lot of discussion, and I love that people from any department in the company, this is not a highly technical game. Everybody in the company can participate, and I think that's really what's necessary for an effective tabletop exercise.

Video transcript: Playing this game was nothing short of fantastic. The IR game crew invited our team of cyber insurance nerds to play, and it was an absolute blast. And that should tell you something, because we're a bunch of cyber insurance nerds. It's a very accessible game. There's plenty of quick thinking, on your feet, calculations, strategy involved. But between those moments of high intensity is an opportunity to discuss and learn about the finer points of incident response. This is a fantastic learning sim that every MSP, every single one, should run with their team at least one time.

Unbelievable experience with my first IR games. Coming at it with the perspective our group had with cyber insurance made the game fun and educational. As a business owner or it professional you never want to have one of these few weeks in real life. What if I told you that you can experience the pressure and stress of dealing with a catastrophic incident virtually. This is it!!

Video transcript: Hey, I wanted to give a huge shout out to the IR games team. They brought the fifth wall insurance sales team onboard onto the show and it was such a learning experience going from insurance agent into the mindset of our customers, the MSP, in the event of when it hits the fan. And it was enlightening and thank goodness we got some good roles. But it was enlightening to watch some of our newer team members dive into the world of claims, dive into the world of an incident. And I cannot recommend this game enough. It is an educational, yet fast paced, thrilling adventure. I highly recommend it. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me directly. You can find me on LinkedIn. Thank you.

Our team had a session with Bob Miller and Matt Lee recently, and I can tell you honestly that the time flew by. We had a blast! As insurance professionals who specialize in cyber, it gave our crew a good look into “the other side of the fence” and allowed us to experience firsthand some of the stress and decision making that goes on right of boom.

Video transcript: Hey everyone, if you're looking to use IR game or get into IR game, or if you just wanted to explore it and sign up for a game, I highly, highly recommend it. If you're already kind of familiar with it and you're considering using as an educational tool for your teams, your clients, it is a phenomenal tool. My personal experience, I mean I ran two different MSP's for over 14 years and unfortunately we did have a day similar to the scenario that we ran in our IR game. And it was extremely realistic. It helps you think through in the moment the pressures, right? The implications of your actions, whether you're a seasoned security professional or it professional, or whether you were the head of sales and you just want to understand the challenges that it organizations and MSP's face. It's a phenomenal experience, I have to say a little bit of PTSD because you're having to relive those scenarios and you're having to make really tough decisions. So if you want a realistic way to walk through again what a lot of MSP's and iT companies see when an incident happens, to understand the full spectrum of the impacts of the actions you have to take, I highly, highly recommend IR game sign up today. You're not going to regret it no matter what role you play in cybersecurity or in business. Do it now. Have fun. Learn a lot.

Brian Weiss
CEO
Video transcript: Brian Weiss here from itech solutions out of San Luis Obis Obispo, California. We're an MSP of 13 people, and this was one of the most coolest games I've played in a long time. Kept me on my toes. You walk into this thing thinking you know what you're gonna do, and you realize quickly, wow, you've got a lot of uncontrolled variables that you thought you might have had under control that aren't really. So I think this is one of those great games that can really give you some extra humility around maybe what you need to rethink right on. When it comes to incident response for us, we always feel like we've got things under control. Right. That's how we sleep at night. But in reality, we do need to inspect what to expect often. And I feel like that does include taking part in exercises like this just to kind of give you a little wake up call. Right. I will say that internally, we want to do more intensive tabletop type exercises with our own internal team, so we build that confidence working with our team internally. But this is a great way to kind of get outside your shell, put you in your place a little bit. We lost all our clients. I heard there might be a programming issue, but I wouldn't doubt if we lost all our clients because it was kind of haphazard with how everything was going. But I want to thank everyone over at the IR games team for making this happen, because it's things like this that are really helping rise the tides in our industry. And I appreciate you guys very much. Thank you.
