Video transcript: Before attending this workshop, I honestly thought I was the only one struggling with writing. I even started to think that maybe I had some kind of intellectual disability because I kept getting stuck when writing and reading scientific content. But this workshop helped me realize that I'm not alone and that so many others face the same challenges. It gave me tools that go beyond this thesis writing tools that help me with time management, organization, and productivity in general. The thesis doesn't feel so intimidating anymore because Dr. Martha showed us how to break it down into manageable parts and ask ourselves the right questions. That helped me see the flow of my work more clearly and removed blind spots. And finally, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, because that was the most scary part. Now my thesis doesn't feel so scary anymore. To start, I've learned how to silence my perfectionist, my inner critic, and to just write. This workshop truly exceeded my expectations, and I am so grateful for the confidence and the clarity it gave me. And I highly recommend it to all the postgraduate students. Thank you. Thank you so much, Dr. Martha. Thank you.

"From a chaos of ideas to an outstanding thesis" workshop. My biggest challenge before this course was to actually start writing my thesis. This course really helped me to get started and to organise my ideas. I warmly recommand this course to anyone who feels overwhelmed at the idea of starting writing.

I started this workshop feeling unsure I was capable of shaping my research into a thesis. Module by module, that changed. Separating messy thinking from polished writing, learning to state one clear message, and turning my contributions into an ordered outline showed me the work was manageable all along; I just needed a method. I'm grateful for how much clarity and confidence this gave me. Thank you Martha !

My biggest chalenge before the workshop was how to plan the writing of my thesis. The course helped me to structure my ideas and prepare outline of my thesis. I would recommend this workshop to every doctoral student, in my opinion to benefit the most from this course you should have most of your results ready but not yet started writing your thesis.

“From a chaos of ideas to an outstanding thesis” workshop – testimonial • What was your biggest challenge before the course? My biggest challenge was finding ways to write logical connections between my thesis topics and creating an easily understandable overview of the thesis • What was your key takeaway or result? I know that in writing it is important to keep at it, to not lose too much time thinking about what to write or preparing by reading every relevant paper. The more time you put into it, the easier it gets and the less harrowing of an idea “writing” becomes. • Who would you recommend this course to? To everyone, actually. The topics of this workshop are not difficult to understand and the tasks are not complicated to follow, because everything you need to do comes from yourself. The course just gives you a rails to ride forward and not stop every moment to take in the scenery.

I had been waiting for this course for months with high expectations, and I can honestly say they were completely fulfilled. My main challenge was being a non-native English speaker; I often felt I lacked the linguistic resources that native speakers have. In this workshop, I learned to embrace my "internal language”, even if this means a mix of languages, without worrying about perfection at first. The course provided a clear framework to transition from this “internal language” to a structured first draft as well as tools to create an improved style version. Additionally, the subgroup activities were incredibly helpful; they help us to switch roles between writer and reader, helping us view our own manuscripts with a more objective and critical eye. I highly recommend this course to anyone facing language barriers who wants to transform their writing process and gain confidence in their unique voice.

Before the course "From a chaos of ideas to an outstanding thesis", my main challenge was organizing complex ideas into a coherent thesis structure. I often had many relevant points but struggled to cluster them clearly and to translate them into a logical argumentative flow. A key takeaway was learning how to work with cluster of ideas and cluster of structure, which helped me distinguish core arguments from supporting elements and organize them more effectively. Another important takeaway concerned writing style. I previously thought my expression was already adequate, but the course showed me how adverbs and adjectives can obscure meaning, how shorter sentences improve clarity, and how to state points more precisely. I would recommend this course to PhD students and early-career researchers who want practical methods to improve both the structure and the style of their academic writing.

From a chaos of ideas to an outstanding thesis was a nice course that I would recommend it to anyone that has issues to write even if its not the thesis (could be a paper). Before the course my biggest issue was how to start writing and how to not take breaks after every sentence. The free writing exercise helped me a lot with that and I think I will apply it to other parts of my life as well. One particular exercise that helped was the one where we had to write an outline without looking at our documents and just write something. Because this way my brain had already registered the most important things and it was easier to put things in order. Of course, not everything was connected with this exercise but I think when I open my documents and results I will find the missing points. I generally really liked the course and for the fact that its only a week I think I got many useful tips.

Before the course, my biggest challenge was finding a way to navigate the many ideas and topics in my head, as my thesis is highly interdisciplinary. I struggled to organise my internal language and connect the different perspectives and concepts I wanted to include. This made it difficult to find a clear starting point and turn my ideas into structured writing. My key takeaway was learning how to translate my internal language into clear, structured writing. The course helped me externalise my thoughts and organise them in a way that made sense on paper. I learned practical strategies for moving from abstract ideas to concrete arguments, and how to build a logical flow between different parts of my thesis. This process made writing feel much more manageable and less overwhelming, especially given the interdisciplinary nature of my work. I would recommend this course to anyone beginning their academic or research journey, including bachelor’s and master’s students, as well as early-career researchers. It’s valuable for those who struggle to organise their ideas or are unsure how to start writing their thesis.
