I had an outstanding experience using Secta Labs for my professional headshots. The variety of themes and settings they offer is incredibly impressive — it allowed me to select looks that truly align with my brand and the different ways I show up professionally. Has anyone else tried Secta Labs and their headshot generator? I took advantage of this option I received through the Forbes Coaches Council.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed. Were they all perfect? No. But there were so many good ones as well. Better than I've seen through some other generators. And the variety they offer is staggering. Below are a few of my favorites.

Yes, candy corn is a great candy and it’s even better when mixed with peanuts. This is a hill I will die on. Unlike the hill of “AI is taking everyone’s jobs.” The latest New York Fed survey tells a different story: Layoffs are rare. Only 1% of service firms reported AI-related layoffs this year. Manufacturers? None. Hiring is where the impact shows. 12% of firms scaled back hiring in the past six months because AI boosted productivity. Nearly a quarter expect to reduce hiring in the months ahead. It’s concentrated in degree-requiring roles. Especially the entry-level jobs that traditionally serve as the “foot in the door.” Reskilling is the big trend. Nearly half of firms expect to retrain workers to use AI in the next six months. Some firms are hiring because of AI. Around 10–15% plan to add AI-proficient employees. The takeaway: AI isn’t causing mass layoffs — but it is quietly reshaping how people get hired. 👉 For early-career talent, standing out means: Showing your AI proficiency (using tools and asking the right questions). Pairing it with strong essential skills — communication, adaptability, problem-solving. That mix is the real sweet spot.

As a fully virtual firm, we used to collect headshots from new hires to add to our Team Page: lnkd.in/gmdabsy5. They could be all over the place in terms of quality, angle, focus, zoom. We've been using Secta Labs to get more uniform looking photos. It's not required, but it's a nice option when someone doesn't have access to a high-quality camera and lighting (or selfie skills). For some time now, I have been wanting to find a good AI headshot app/generator. I saw my friend and fellow Air Force veteran Laylanny Johnson using an outstanding AI headshot and asked, "Where from?" She said 'Secta Labs.' For a onetime fee of $49, you get up to 200 AI headshots with up to 7 different themed backgrounds. You simply provide 20+ pictures and/or selfies and within a couple of hours, have full access. You can have individual headshots tweaked with different clothing, lighting, etc. And most importantly, they are very realistic! (See attached for some of my examples) Make sure to catch the last picture...I call that the 'Hollywood' 😅 (Not totally realistic, but fun none-the-less)

A Year in Review: My AI Headshot Journey with Secta Labs About a year ago, I shared my experience with AI-generated headshots (see original post: lnkd.in/gE-CeT_C). It’s been an interesting journey, and I thought it would be a great time to provide an update—especially as I’ve continued using Secta Labs and their evolving offerings. Secta Labs has recently launched new subscription-based services, making it even easier for users to access a variety of styles. They now offer over 76 gallery types, and they’re continually adding more. With their subscription plans, you can generate a certain number of galleries each month. The base plan allows for one gallery per month, the middle plan offers five, and the top-tier plan gives you unlimited access. What keeps me coming back to Secta Labs, though, is the convenience. Since my initial photo shoot a year ago, I’ve been able to build on my previous images without having to upload new photos or pay for a full photo shoot each time. This continuity has been incredibly useful and cost-effective. Now, onto the fun part—the quirks of AI headshots! Below are a few examples from my latest Secta Labs gallery. While these are in the minority, they illustrate some amusing mishaps AI can still produce. Aside from a few questionable fashion choices made by the algorithm, I’ve noticed that the images have increasingly started to resemble me as AI models continue to improve and learn over time. The one that made me chuckle the most is from my CEO gallery. I’m not sure how many CEOs lean into the department store aesthetic, but here we are! Another rare but odd quirk is that sometimes my head appears much larger than my torso, which always gives me a good laugh. All in all, though, I’m still incredibly impressed with the headshots I get from Secta Labs. My current one is an edit from one of my most recent galleries, and I’m excited to see how the technology evolves moving forward.

I am happily in my Fall Cozy Season of 2024. Bring on the layers! Which, in Chicagoland, means it's 50 degrees in the morning and 90 by the afternoon. 🤣 But I love it all... colors, smells, sweaters. There are big windows in my home office and I can see the leaves changing. Glorious. I have fall family photos done every year with a local photographer. It's something I've done every year since my kids were little. As a family of five, we're always on the go and it's hard to get all of us together in one pic. (and even harder to get pics of just me... I'm usually the one TAKING the photos and not the one IN the photos.) I've been using Secta Labs to create headshots for myself for the past few months. By recommendation from Michelle Pecak, I started playing with an AI headshot editor last night - Secta Labs. Honestly, I couldn’t stop trying different clothing, backgrounds and hair, it was so fun! Once again, Secta Labs has come through for me in an above-and-beyond way! I needed an author headshot for an upcoming book (shameless plug) and the publisher said “today.” It’s normal to get great customer support from real people (aka Rosie!,) and since I have been using Secta for a while I was delighted instead of surprised when Rosie and Miko came to my rescue in a pinch. Based on the photos I had uploaded, the images I got in my Secta portfolio included gray hair and purple hair. I found the headshot I wanted to send the publisher, but it was gray-haired instead of purple (my current flavor.) I messaged Rosie in a semi-panic. She connected me with AI Artist Miko who used his wizardry to update my hair on two images so they look like current me. Bull’s eye. Because they came out great, I sent both to the publisher and said, "YOU pick!" These are all Al generated using Secta Labs I continue to have so many thoughts about #Al and what it can do. A part of me is really impress and these images actually do look a lot like me. A part of me is truly terrified, if Al is this good now, what will it be like in 2, 5 or 10 years from now? Will we know real from Al? Will AI headshots make us more self conscious about how we look? I had a blast generating my new and fresh 2024 AI headshots with Secta Labs … and this is how you can get yours in less than two hours: 1. Upload at least 25 photos and a general description of what style you would like. … Surprisingly, in a time where we have selfies and photos everywhere, curating the 25+ is what took me the longest. I hate taking photos of myself and the idea of headshots fills me with anxiety. Last time I had headshots taken was back in 2014-ish and I've been using those photos and illustrations of myself for almost 10 years. Earlier this year one of my colleagues got some headshots via Secta Labs and they were surprisingly good. I've been wanting to try this for the past six months but finding 25 suitable pictures of myself was a struggle. I’ve tried ai headshot platforms before. I didn’t like the results. I could see all the glitches in the images, and the styling was always off - I have no interest in seeing myself as a medieval equestrian. Thanks, but ai cosplay is not for me. But after seeing Stephanie Nuesi’s post about Secta Labs, I decided to try again. And wow, this tech has gotten so much better, more professional, precise, iterative, empathetic to “getting older”, and creative. I look like a pretty current version of myself, with a ton of features to iterate and tweak using AI features. I haven’t had a professional headshot that was not a family photo since probably 2016.
