I started with … nothing! Thank you Phil for excellent teaching and providing very valuable teaching material. Attending the course I am able to play slide guitar and to dive deeper into music: Slide Success. However, a new problem has risen up: My wife gets suspicious about a growing number of guitars in the house ;-)
So pleased I signed up for this course. My slide playing has already improved massively. Phil is a brilliant teacher and a great guy. This course has the whole package - 121's with Phil, Group discussions and lifetime access to some great material. Phil is adding new material regularly. This course has all you need play slide guitar.
I have enjoyed this course very much. The course content, both written and video, is clearly laid out and esy to follow. Phil is a brilliany teacher and is always ready to offer advice and check progress via the group and one-to-one sessions. My slide guitar playing has improved from never having used a slide before this course to being able to play some tunes and riffs which I regard as great progress.
'Slide Success' has above all given me greater playing confidence, enabling me to tackle techniques that a) I didn't know or b) didn't think I was capable of achieving as a musician, unlocking a new level of creativity in support of several new music projects I'm working on. It helps to know that others are in the same boat, and I found the stories from the other guys utterly inspiring. Highly recommended!
I joined Phil's programme in October '24 with the aspiration to be " playing slide by Christmas". I am very happy to recommend this course to other aspiring players. Phil's patient and easy delivery style makes even the recorded lesson material feel personal. There is a wealth of expertly curated material here, and with the continued support of Phil and the Slide Success community I look forward to progressing from "Playing Slide" to becoming a "Slide Player"! Slide has always eluded me. However now, thanks to Phil’s course, I am well on my way to accomplishing some decent slide playing. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to tackle something like Clapton’s version on Walkin’ Blues, but I’m now on my way to playing it. If you’re interested in slide playing, this is the course to go for. Phil is an excellent, and patient, teacher. The chance to interact with other players on the course is very useful. Definitely recommend this course.
Highly recommended! I started the course from a pretty low baseline but am now playing with more confidence, getting much cleaner tone from my slide and applying muting to define notes. I have a better understanding of open tunings and a framework for making my own riffs and licks. This has taken my aimless noodling to a better level! The platform used by Slide Success is really intuitive and accessible, and the use of workshops and 1:1 sessions have been really effective in getting me past some stumbling blocks. Phil has created a really dynamic Facebook group where we pose and answer questions. This has developed into a real sense of a supportive learning community of like minded slide players.
Anyone thinking of learning Slide Guitar should check this course out ... This course has added a new dimension to my playing, while being challenging but ultimately rewarding. Playing slide escaped me for so many years. I have bought slides and experimented on a number of occasions and simply did not succeed with any clarity or ambition to persevere... This course has changed all of that. Phillips approach to teaching is relaxed and imformative and allows you to progress at your own pace supported by a fantastic on-line resource. The one to one lessons work to Ironing out those essential technics and the group sessions are a great way to share frustrations, ideas and solutions... I for one am richer for this journey and will continue to enjoy, develop and perfect my slide playing into the future Thank you Phill
I have always wanted to learn to play slide guitar. I had experimented with it a little bit but was never ever able to get anything that sounded good out of my guitar. When I came across Philip Henry's learn slight guitar curriculum I thought I would give it a try. After about 4 months I have been using my slide guitar on my own songs that I record. The curriculum starts out from the absolute beginning and goes well into the theory and practical techniques of playing slide. I enjoy the two weekly group sessions with the instructor and other students in the curriculum as well as a one-on-one with the instructor as I need it. I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who is wanting to learn slide guitar. Even if you've never played guitar before this is a great course and you will be playing things which you never thought you would.
Getting started on slide guitar can be a bewildering, and at times, discouraging process; there is so much to learn! Phil Henry's "Slide Success" course guides you through those difficult early stages. Emphasis is placed on developing a good technique, with good intonation and a clean sound. Phil's course is well thought out and presented. It answers all the questions you may be asking yourself, and in a short space of time you find yourself making g good progress. There is a wealth of material to work through; advice on equipment, exercises, scales and set pieces. All carefully chosen by Phil to help you progress as a player. The weekly online forum is a friendly place to visit, where you can meet other players, share tips and talk about guitars! I would not hesitate to recommend this course to anyone interested in playing slide. It has helped me get off to a great start and I sure it is going to be a source of information and inspiration for years to come. Thanks Phil.
I signed up for the Slide Success program as of Dec 2023. I started the program in January of 2024. The methods that are incorporated are much different from other teachers I have seen. Phillip’s teaching starts by simple methods of ear training, learning to listen to sounds like drones similar to slide sounds, getting your ears and brain to learn. Your first songs are going to be simple as you need to master getting the proper technique, tone and sound from your slide. I enjoyed that aspect as this curriculum will get you ready to get into the much harder concepts, techniques, music pieces that you will learn, all provided in the course, in a carefully concise order of learning. My eyes were opened as to what really is happening and needed to play quality slide. I always thought it was a lot of fast movement but slowly learned that it’s not. You need control of your slide to get quality tone and how your slide position can influence certain sounds . He teaches the fundamentals of Vibrato which is important is not what it seems, there is more to it. I learned to use both my left hand and right hand -working together to produce that sweet sound. I highly recommend Phillip as your teacher. The one to ones with Phillip, zoom group sessions , camaraderie formed with other members of slide success , all help you with your learning. The large number of modules with lessons with videos will give you the tools to learn to play slide guitar, available for a lifetime. The rest is up to us as a student, to learn from Phillip and his exceptional program. He is understanding, and gentle in his guidance and will try to coax your very best from you. Hi, I'm Chris, I enrolled on the Slide Success course in March 2024. The first thing I would like to acknowledge is just how good Phil is. Phil is not only a superb musician and slide player, but possibly and most importantly for this course is that his ability to teach is incredible. His knowledge and understanding is clearly as deep as the ocean, and his calm, almost zen like, delivery of the lessons makes everything easy to understand. The course is centred on Phil's 5 pillar approach, where learning how to play slide guitar is broken into 5 core areas, which covers everything from choice of slide, string gauge and finger picks, developing fundamental skills, touch, tone and intonation, understanding open tunings, finger-style patterns, vibrato, harmonics, playing behind the slide and various performance pieces. The course content is online in the form of video's in detailed but digestible chunks, they are delivered with a multi-angle camera set up where appropriate, they have superb audio quality and the lessons have accompanying tabs, chord and scale diagrams. Slide Success is supplemented by group zoom sessions twice a week, where you can discuss your progress with Phil and other students that are enrolled in the course. In addition, you get access to Phil for 1 to 1 zoom lessons to support you over your first 90 days. During one to one zoom lessons you'll find that Phil has a friendly and easy going nature, he is reassuring and patient, giving insightful and constructive advice on where improvements can be made. There is also a Slide Success Facebook group where students can choose to share progress videos, offer support and encouragement as they progress through the course material. Although the course is for 90 days, it's important to note that all of the course material and online content is always there for you to use and refer to whenever you want. This is great for folks with busy lives as you can use it to fit it around your own free time. The course content seems expanding all the time, as Phil adds new material and lessons on a frequent basis. Slide Success is a clear 10/10 for me, it comes highly recommended. I have played guitar for more years than I care to count, however my slide playing was lacking. The progress I have made under Phil's guidance in such a short space of time has got me excited for what I could achieve in the coming months. I really hope Phil expands his course offerings to build on the Slide Success course, he's been superb to deal with and it's clear that not only is he an incredible musician, he has a skillset that makes him formidable teacher.
