I don’t generally recommend apps or products but I am a big fan of YNAB and truly think it has helped me get on top of my finances so that now—they’re right—I don’t worry about them. If you want clarity about where your money is going and how to manage it, I don’t know that there’s a better product out there.

We started using YNAB just over a year ago by recommendation of great friends. We totally had to flip the way we thought of our paychecks, but seeing how we can set aside money little bits at a time and watching it grow makes paying things like annual bills stress-LESS rather than stress-FUL like they used to be. We also never imagined that we would buy a new house and were able to do so many things like travel etc without going into credit card debt. I honestly can’t tell you how long I’ve been using YNAB, but I could not live without it now. I was already using a very similar method before using the app. But YNAB has not only made it easier for me to manage my finances but it’s helped me “find” money I didn’t know I had. It made planning for my children much less stressful. Made me see my husband and I could afford the addition to our house when our family began growing. Helps us plan for the expected and unexpected. It’s literally saved my financial life and taken the worry away when new things come up. To some it looks like I just spend money without care, but if they ask me, I’ll spend hours telling them I planned for it all and how they need to do the same. Any chance I get to tell people about YNAB, I take it and run with it! It’s the most important app I will ever have on my phone and will never go without.

Besides the incredible humans at YNAB, this app has changed my life. I've tried so many and most of them were fancy versions of a spreadsheet. Nothing has given me insight into my finances like YNAB does. I know exactly where every penny is going or going to go in the future (even those pesky or fun surprises that always come up). I found YNAB about 15 years ago, shortly after getting married. Hubby and I decided I’d manage our spending, despite budgeting being completely new to me. At first, I only tracked where our money went. Then I discovered I could actually tell it where to go. Fast-forward to today, and I couldn’t live without YNAB. It’s helped us save, spot fraudulent transactions, track our home loan debt and feel confident about our spending. I tell everyone about it and have got most of my family now using it too. I’ll happily move money between categories to make the plan work. And if reconciliation says I’m out by one cent, I will find it. It may take an unreasonable amount of time, but at that point it’s no longer about the money. It’s personal.

Love. Love. Love. Love this app! First, they don’t sell your information. They only make money through the membership. It’s also a very beautifully and thoughtfully designed interface. Second, it has brought so much sanity to my world. My partner and I have different money personalities, and this has helped us have good conversations as well as become more purposeful with our funds and aligned on our goals. He likes to spend money and I don’t. This app has brought harmony to our marriage showing him the advantage of pulling back some and allowing me to see that it is OK to splurge every now and then. There was definitely a learning curve when we first started. The tutorial videos on YouTube are both incredibly helpful and funny! Also, the support chat within the app is fabulous. I hit a few brick walls with frustration and not knowing what was going on and it was wonderful to also have the their team ready and able to quickly log in (with my permission) and help me figure out what was going on when I was too tired to figure it out myself. They both explained it clearly and fixed it for me. Gold stars all around!!

I was skeptical of YNAB at first, but a few months in, I now feel EXTREMELY comfortable about my not feeling worried about my expenses. As someone who lives on one source of income, YNAB made my budgeting far better than anything I could have done. As far as app usability is concerned, there are no issues whatsoever. For an app as complex as YNAB with so many features, it is extremely user-friendly. I LOVE YNAB!!!!

I was referred to YNAB by a friend and it has totally changed my life. I've been able to take control of my money and in two years have gone from $10k on my credit card to rolling into January with a zero balance on my CC having spent close to $500 on Christmas gifts and almost 40k in my savings account. I'm now in a position where I could lose my income completely and be okay for almost 3 months because I know I have my bills and mortgage set aside for that time. I almost never look at my bank account now, just YNAB.

It’s probably cliche, but it’s honest - this app has transformed the way I approach money, and thus my life. I have been fortunate enough to have a decent income my whole life, but never really felt very secure or had much savings. However, YNAB quickly exposed the holes and my savings skyrocketed.
